The poem "We Are More" means many things but what means the biggest message is that Canadians are more than the stereotype. To me, the poem is saying that although we are young as a nation, we have the potential and desire to be more successful. We are more than just stereotypes and have great desires to be different and influential. What defines us has way more depth and meaning than what others see us as on the surface. In the poem, there are many very meaningful metaphors that really enhance the imagery and theme. There's a quote that says "So don't let your luggage define your travels" and I think that is a great metaphor because it's saying how not to let your past regrets and experiences limit your goals and ambitions. That is very important because when people tend to doubt and hesitate, it is mainly because of their past. The luggage represents your past and the travels that it mentions is your future. Seeing someone perform the play is very different from just reading the play. For me, I would usually prefer to read it off a page because I can go at my own pace and really examine the meaning of every word. I can interpret what it personally means to me. Watching a play being performed is relying on the performer to portray the right emotion and some of that may be their own personal emotion. It is also relying on them to go at a good pace. If the performer recites the poem too fast, there is little meaning and theme that the audience can pick up. At the same time, watching a poem being performed can really enhance the meaning because of all the emotion that the performer is portraying.
